Monographs, retrospectives, creative projects, exposure to 20th-century art movements, to contemporary art, to all visual arts and all civilizations, from prehistory to the present day: the RMN provides a wide and generous vision of art history.
It organizes and produces all exhibitions displayed at the Grand Palais National Galleries, and organizes around 30 temporary exhibitions every year, either on its own or in collaboration with around 30 national museums and public bodies. Some of these events are also international joint productions with the biggest museums in the world, particularly in Europe, North America and Asia.
The RMN is one of the leading organizers of art exhibitions in the world. It has also initiated annual meetings between managers of the largest international museums which organize cultural events, the Bizot Group.
The RMN also jointly produces exhibitions and assists with the organization of exhibitions presented in cultural establishments which are not national museums. It offers them its experience and expertise in all domains of production.
Once the exhibition has been organized, the RMN promotes it in the most suitable way, through its communications, PR, image and advertising departments.
The organization of a major international exhibition begins a long time before its doors open to the public! It requires two to four years of preparation.
The national museums exhibition programme is set with the agreement of a scheduling committee, and then advice from a senior committee.
Once an exhibition has been scheduled, the RMN organizes the logistics and takes responsibility for all production by appointing a project manager. These events have a wide variety of themes, size and budgets.
The RMN sets and invests the budget for exhibitions. It negotiates and signs joint production contracts with foreign museums when the exhibitions are to be international and go on tour (succession of presentations in two or three countries), or with national French collectives, in the case of exhibitions presented regionally.
The RMN also seeks out companies and individuals who want to offer their support, as patrons, sponsors or partners of these exhibitions, which are often exceptional events.
The RMN administers requests for loans and organizes and manages transport and insurance for works. For some international exhibitions, the RMN may request, in order to insure the works which are to go on display, a “state guaranty”.
With the agreement of the exhibition curator, the RMN chooses the architect-layout designer who designs and implements the layout of exhibits.
