Hébert Museum

Museum

The Hébert Museum is closed for refurbishment.

Housed in the Hôtel de Montmorency built in 1743, the museum exhibits works by a famous painter from the second half of the 19th century, Ernest Hébert (1817-1908). A subtle society portrait painter, the artist had an official career under the Second Empire then under the Third Republic which commissioned him for the apse of the Pantheon. But it was in Italy, where he was a student at the French Academy in Rome, under Ingres, before twice being appointed director, that he would explore the major themes of his work: pastoral scenes reminiscent of Jean-François Millet.

Since 2004, the Hébert Museum has been attached to the Orsay museum public institution.
