Renaissance Museum, Château d’Ecouen

Museum

Located about 20km north of Paris, on a rise overlooking the Ile-de-France plain, the Château d’Ecouen, built for the supreme commander of the French army Anne de Montmorency, is one of the most beautiful châteaux built in France during the Renaissance and also one of the few to have been preserved without major mutilation and retaining some of its original decorations (painted fireplaces, ceremonial paving, ceilings and friezes, etc). It contains one of the most prestigious Renaissance collections. It includes furniture, ceramics, enamels, glasswork, stained glass, silver and gold work, paintings, weapons and tapestries, including the exceptional hanging of Story of David and Bathsheba.
